Truck-Lite Quality
Good/Better/Best
Truck-Lite offers the whole line of Stop, Turn and Tail lamps. Choosing the correct the correct light only begins with the initial investment of the product. Other factor such as usage, durability and downtime should be taken into consideration when choosing from LED or Incandescent. More durable products will be more cost effective in the long term lasting 20 times longer than their incandescent counterparts.
To put that further in perspective, one LED light will out last 20 incandescent lights – a total savings of $100 per light over the course of that lights lifetime, when you choose an LED light over an incandescent.

Betts LED Inserts
One of the great things about Betts Lighting Products is that you do not need to change out the entire light to upgrade it to LED. With Betts products, the base unit and the LED light itself are two different piece and can be detached from one another. They also are available with a couple of different plugs depending on the type of base unit you have. Below there are two pictures that will show the difference between the main two types.
Here is a picture of one of LED inserts for a 40 Series Betts Light:with the bulb connectors:
Here is a picture of one of LED inserts for a 40 Series Betts Light with 3 eyelets.
These are, by far, the two most popular styles. They are available in deep lens configuration (shown below) and in different colors.

Identifying Betts Lighting
Betts lights can be very confusing to identify, even when you have the item in hand. Here are a couple of things to look out for to help you find the product you need.
Notice that the two lights posted below look nearly identical. The one on the left is a 45 Series while the corresponding one on the right is a 40 Series light. The one notable difference between the two lights is the amount of bolt hold on the forward face of the lights. The 45 series has three while the 40 series has four.
Even though these lights are near the same size in the pictures, don’t be fooled, they can have severe dimension differences. Take a look at the diagrams below.
As you can see, know the exact dimensions along with other information will make identifying you lights much easier. Below is a list of general information you should know to get the correct light.
- Dimensions
- Color (Red, Amber, Clear, Misc.)
- Functions (Stop, Turn & Tail, Running Light, Turn Signal, Etc.)
- Mounting (Dimensions of Bolt Circle, Surface Mount, Grommet Mount, Etc.)
- Plug Style (Plug & Seal, Bullet Connectors, Hardwire)
- Lens Style (Deep, Shallow, Misc, Etc.)
If you have any questions, please feel free to give us a call at 1(800)394-9012. You can find our online catalog of Betts Lighting here.

Choosing the right replacement stoplight for your truck or trailer can sometimes be confusing with all the available models and options. Here, we will breakdown the difference between Truck-Lite’s Economy, Super, and LED lighting variations and which one might be right for you.
Let’s start with the Economy option. If you want a quick, plug-and-play replacement at lower price, the Economy option will be the right choice for you. These are sealed (They are sealed for longer bulb life.) incandescent lights that utilize Truck-Lite’s standard S/T/T (Stop Turn Tail) 3 prong plug (PL3); pictured left. They are available in with a flange, black or grey, or with a black grommet (Most common.) Unfortunately, these are the least shock and water resistant out of all the available models.
The Super variation is similar, but varies in construction in a few key areas.
Notably, the areas where the wire leads connect to the bulbs are of a better quality, leading them to be better resistant against shock and vibration damage. For convenience the plug remains the same PL3 plug as the Economy version. These are great lights for the price and are the real workhorse line of Truck-Lite’s incandescent lighting. These lights are available in the all of the same mounting options at the Economy Version but also include an option for Diamond Shell Lens. The Diamond Shell lenses are constructed out of a harder poly-carbonate material and have a larger tolerance for physical abuse.
Then we are left with Truck-Lite’s LED options. These are the Truck-Lite’s real flagship lights. Not only do they offer an incredible improvement in running hour time (100,000 hours) but the heat produced and wattage per lumen is decreased. While there will be a greater initial cost, the amount of maintenance required will be reduced, helping offset the initial cost.
According to Truck-Lite, most light failures are due to bulb malfunctions followed by shock and vibration. With the epoxy sealed LED Lights, failure due to bulb malfunction is greatly reduced. Fortunately, there are many different price levels, options and lighting configurations when it comes to LED lighting not encompassed in this post. If you would like to know more about one of Truck-Lite’s LED lights, please contact us here or give us a call at 1(800)394-9012.
